HELLO, I'M ZIXUAN CHEN

Small particles.
Big questions.

Exploring the space where environmental science, physics, and mechanical engineering meet.

A collection of my projects, the questions behind them, and the things that keep me curious.

01 / IDEAS INTO ACTION

A few things on
my workbench.

Start with a project. Look closer at the process, then explore the materials behind it.

FROM MY RESEARCH JOURNAL

Ideas change.
I keep notes.

Ten progress notes on prototypes, modeling, and the questions that made me rethink a design.

02 / BEYOND THE PROJECT

Curiosity likes
company.

Learning with others, sharing ideas, and showing up for the communities I am part of.

JHU ENGINEERING INNOVATION / SUMMER FIELD NOTES

Learning, with
other people.

A few moments from the summer: testing ideas, meeting people, and finding my way around campus.

ONE DESIGN JOURNEY

From an individual project to a team presentation.

  1. 01Individual design

I developed CircaDock and iterated its program.

  2. 02Team discussion and refinement

We discussed approaches and selected the design we considered strongest.

  3. 03SleepDock presentation

We presented the evolved concept together.

STAGE 01 / MY INDIVIDUAL DESIGN

CircaDock.

My individual design and seven MakeCode iterations formed the starting point for the later group assignment. Explore the early decisions and the program behind them.

STAGE 02 / TEAM REFINEMENT & PRESENTATION

SleepDock.

Building on my individual CircaDock project, Alessandro, Kelvin, and I discussed and refined the design, then presented the evolved SleepDock concept together. I presented as Daniel.

04 / A LITTLE MORE ME

There’s more
to the story.

The questions I explore in science sit alongside the things I enjoy beyond it: hiking, badminton, and photography.

LIFE IN MOTION / FROM MY PERSONAL ALBUM

Life, in
motion.

From the workbench to the trail: selected moments from activities, the outdoors, and the places that catch my eye.

05 / THROUGH MY LENS

Another way
to look closer.

Photography is another part of my curiosity. A selection of light, patterns, landscapes, and everyday details that caught my eye.
